William Martin Conway of Allington, 1st Baron of Allington, Kent (1856-1937) was an English art historian and mountaineer. His noble title was granted for the study of nearly 2,000 square miles of the well-known Karakorum mountain range, in 1892. In his expeditions through South America, during 1898, he ascended Aconcagua, Sorata (Illampu) and Illimani; Conway was the one who first set foot on the summit of Illimani, at the end of the nineteenth century.
