This beautiful mountain is at the southern end of the city of the Cordillera Real, it is the highest in this mountain range, this mountain welcomes all mountaineers who visit the city.
William Martin Conway of Allington, 1st Baron of Allington, Kent (1856-1937) was an English art historian and mountaineer. His noble title was granted for the study of nearly 2,000 square miles of the well-known Karakorum mountain range, in 1892. In his expeditions through South America, during 1898, he ascended Aconcagua, Sorata (Illampu) and Illimani; Conway was the one who first set foot on the summit of Illimani, at the end of the nineteenth century.
Illimani is the Aymara word that means "golden eagle."
We leave from the city of La Paz after half a day, we will drive for 3 hours to the town of Pinaya, where we will register our names in the visitor book and then we will continue driving for another hour to the base camp, where we will set up our tents/night in tents.
After a good breakfast we prepare for a 4-hour walk to the high camp, today, a team of local porters accompany us to help us carry our equipment there, nest of condorres that is what the high camp is called, it is a platform Reduced to the edge of the glacier, that is where we will spend the night in tents
We start the day early at 01:00 we have our breakfast, something light but nutritious, we begin the traverse through the glacier from the start we will have progressive slopes of 35 degrees constant and increasing to 45 and even 50 degrees, usually a classic ice ax and a pole will be enough, After 5 to 6 hours we will reach the summit of this beautiful mountain, we will return along the same path to Nido de Condores where we will rest for an hour, and then continue with the descent to the base camp./night in a tent.
After a good breakfast we will pack our equipment and begin driving back to the city of La Paz.
